The ‘fit’ of a saddle refers to how well a saddle sits on a horse, avoiding pinching the spine of the horse, distributing the weight of the rider, and maintaining a steady and firm contact over a wide area. Different activities demand different types of saddle, some providing greater cushioning or support and others which are lighter in weight or offer greater freedom of movement for the rider. Similarly there are an array of issues and design variables to consider for the bridle, the bit and the reins. All of this can appear complex and daunting to a new rider but while the Club provides an extensive array of saddles, bits, bridles, girths and other items of equipment for the horse, we also advise riders on the proper fit and the proper use of the equipment as well as on their choice of tack. Ultimately it is a combination of the personal preferences of the rider and of the needs of the horse that determine the choice of tack, but bad or poorly fitted equipment can be dangerous for the rider and/or make the horse’s performance to deteriorate or even for it to develop muscular or nerve problems. Our equipment comes from both China and abroad and can be bought at the tack shop in the clubhouse. The tack shop also sells a wide range of riding clothes: boots, gloves, trousers & jackets, polo team shirts etc and carries several styles of riding helmet.Members must always wear an approved riding helmet when they are on a horse in the Club. The tack shop staff can provide advice on suitable helmets and clothing.
